On May 12, 2017, Thomas Hartless fatally shot his ex-girlfriend Marlina Medrano and her co-worker Cindy Krantz at Pine Kirk Care Center. The Kirkersville police department received a call about the mass shooting at around 7:30 a.m. local time. Hartless took other employees hostage as he approached the center, neither was harmed.
