Early Life
Natasha Verma was born to Omesh Verma and Shama Verma in New York City and raised in Texas. She is of Indian descent. Her father is an internist and her mother holds a master’s in computer engineering from the London School of Economics. [4] [24] [5] [3]
Education
The American Diabetes Association named her a Youth Ambassador. Former Governor of Texas, Rick Perry and then-President George Washington presented her with a Prudential Spirit of Community Award. [24] [4] [5]
Verma completed Secondary school at an early age. She had earned both her diploma and an associate degree by the time she was 15. She liked the challenge of the advanced classes and saw no reason age should dictate her course selections. [24] [4] [5]
Upon completing Secondary school, she went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin from 2009 to 2012, receiving two undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism and biology. She became the University of Texas' youngest ever graduate at age 17. [24] [4] [2]
After completing her undergrad studies, Verman attended Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism from 2012 - 2013, receiving a master's in Broadcast journalism, earned at age 18. [24] [4] [3] [2]
Career
Natasha founded Natasha Verma Productions in December of 2012. She was the executive producer and director for a feature film about female boxing called "Hardy." She is also the founder of the Verma Foundation, a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organization with the mission of improving life for people facing adversity. After Natasha was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma she began manufacturing and distributing cap wigs at no cost for women and children who are fighting cancer. [2][42]
Natasha developed and launched her own show in 2009 called "Good Morning Texas," she used the platform to interview celebrities and influential figures like Will Ferrell, Rainn Wilson, and Rachael Ray. The show took her to the red carpet at SXSW and the Austin film premiere. It even won a Best in Production award. During her time at Columbia University, Natasha led a team of reporters covering the 2012 Presidential Race. She was also Editor-in-chief of a series of investigations into a controversial redistricting project in New York City. [38]
In 2016, Natasha started a career as a television reporter and anchor on NBC10 Boston covering news all over the East Coast. She was also a fill-in anchor and host of "This is New England." Natasha spent some time at WBBH as a weeknight reporter and fill-in anchor and a live reporter covering breaking news at News 12 Bronx.[2]
Since August 2019 Natasha has been a weekday morning anchor at KUSA-TV, 9News. [2]
Personal Life
The next year, Natasha had the chance to play with the Harlem Globetrotters and introduce them to a young girl who had been the recipient of one of her Verma Foundation wig caps. [39]
Natasha loves big dogs and has an English Mastiff named Diesel as well as a Bernese Mountain Dog named Duchess. Natasha grew up skiing around the Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico and trained at the Ernie Blake Snowsports School at Taos Toas Ski Valley. [39]
