Her then 18 year old son, Daniel Ponzo, was arrested on a misdeameanor in 2016 on an animal cruelty charge.
His arrest was documented on major Canadian news sites.
He did not spend time in prison on the charge and the dog that was involved in the incident was still alive and healthy four years later.[4][7] He was sentenced to house arrest.[15] Daniel Ponzo has stated that at the time of the incident the dog was attacked by a cat. [11]
