Shane Whiddon was an American chef at Virginia's on King based in Charleston, South Carolina. ^{[1] [2]}

Whiddon attended Glynn Academy, where he graduated in 1998. ^[1] He was married to Shannon Whiddon, who is an Accounts Payable Professional. The couple has two young sons. ^{[1] [8]}

On August 24, 2017, the City of Charleston Police Department, City of Charleston Fire Department, and Charleston County, South Carolina EMS responded to the area of Virginia’s On King at about 12:17 p.m. to a report of a shooting and hostage situation. ^[2]

Thomas Burnes had walked into the restaurant disgruntled with a handgun and killed Whiddon. Burnes then held another hostage for some time. ^[2]

Burnes was shot by police and was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. ^[2]
