Thomas Burnes is a former dishwasher employed in Virginia's as King in Charleston, South Carolina. ^[1]

Charleston Shooting

On August 24, 2017, the Charleston Police Department, Charleston City Fire, and Charleston County EMS responded to the area of Virginia’s On King at about 12:17 p.m. to a report of a shooting and hostage situation. ^[1]

Burnes had walked into the restaurant disgruntled with a handgun and killed a chef, identified as Shane Whiddon, in the restaurant and held another hostage for some time. ^[1]

Burnes was killed by police and was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
