Personal Life
She was married to Barry Wells. Tonie was a mother to one daughter.
Her husband went viral on social media in 2017, after posting on Instagram, a photo of Tonie tattooed on his back.
Death
On December 27, 2017, Wells was found dead inside her Brooklyn home after her toddler's constant crying and screaming led a neighbor to call 911.
Her body was discovered before 10:00 a.m. local time at the bottom of the basement staircase at a home on Sterling Place near Albany Avenue in Crown Heights.
She had blunt force trauma to her body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Barry Wells allegedly shoved her down the stairs before fleeing the home.
The New York Police Department suspended two 77th Precinct officers, Wael Jaber and Wing Hong Lau, for failing to check up on a call regarding Tonie on the day of her death. [1]
The officers responded to the three-story Sterling Place brownstone after the victim’s sister called 911 to report that Tonie was scared of her husband because he was acting funny.
Instead of entering the home, the cops remained in their patrol car and then drove off.
