Murder of Tonie Nicole Wells
On Wednesday, December 27, 2017, Wells was arrested in connection to the death of his wife Tonie Wells.
Tonie was found dead inside her Brooklyn home after her toddler's constant crying and screaming led a neighbor to call 911.
Her body was discovered before 10:00 a.m. local time at the bottom of the basement staircase at a home on Sterling Place near Albany Avenue in Crown Heights.
She had blunt force trauma to her body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Barry allegedly shoved her down the stairs before fleeing the home.
The New York Police Department suspended two 77th Precinct officers, Wael Jaber and Wing Hong Lau, for failing to check up on a call for regarding Toni Wells on the day of her death.
The officers responded to the three-story Sterling Place brownstone after the victim’s sister called 911 to report that Tonie was scared of her husband because he was acting funny.
Instead of entering the home, the cops remained in their patrol car and then drove off.
Criminal history
Wells was arrested on September 21, 2017, on felony charges of strangulation in the second degree for attacking Tonie Wells in July 2017.
In that case, Barry allegedly dragged Tonie down the stairwell of a West 42nd Street building in Manhattan and into a closet before placing his hands around her neck, causing her to lose consciousness.
