Sterling was born to Cheyanne Harris and Zachary Koehn. ^{[0] [1]}

On August 30, 2017, Zachary called an ambulance to their home just before 1:00 p.m. local time.

^{[1] [0]}He told the dispatcher that Cheyanne had fed Sterling just hours before and had last checked on him at 11:00 a.m. ^{[1] [0]}When Harris went to check on him again a half-hour later, Sterling was dead. ^[1]

When authorities arrived at the scene, Sterling was weighing less than seven pounds, had maggots in various stages of development in his clothing and on his skin.

For more than a week, Sterling did not have a diaper change or bath, or been taken out of a powered baby swing inside one of the home's bedrooms.

On October 25, 2017, Harris and Koehn were arrested and charged with murder.
