Family and Early Life
He was born Derek McAllister, Jr. on November 6, 1994 in New York City. Knockerz was raised by his mother Mesha Wilson in South Carolina. He attended a few different schools including Kelly Mill Middle School and Ridge View High School. Derek McAllister, Sr. was a former musician himself, but he landed himself a ten-year stint in jail while the family lived in N.Y.C., so Derek Jr.'s mother decided to move the family away from such an unhealthy environment. They moved to South Carolina, where the young Derek fell in love with Hip hop and creating music with his PC.
Career
Speaker Knockerz began his music career in his early teens. His debut mixtape, Flight Delayed, was released in 2010. It included tracks like “Good Times”, “Tip You Like a Waiter” and “Go Girl”. The tape was released commercially by Talibandz Entertainment in July 2016.
In 2011, he sold one of his beats to Meek Mill, then Gucci Mane bought a Speaker Knockerz beat for his track "Re-Up." Knockerz's work as an MC took off when he uploaded the cut "Weekend" in 2012, and 2013 saw him hit with the track "Lonely" plus his "Rico" trilogy, a gangsta rap story told over three singles.
Personal Life
He died on March 6, 2014 at the age of 19. His body was found in his garage at his home in South Carolina. He reportedly died of natural causes (heart attack). Autopsy showed no signs of trauma. There was also no signs of foul play.
