On April 10, 2017, a shooting took place just before 11:00 am at North Park Elementary School in San Bernardino, CA. ^[10]

Cedric Charles Anderson and Karen Smith (Teacher) were killed in a murder-suicide incident that occurred at North Park Elementary School. ^{[20] [15]}

Anderson entered the Elementary School at about 10:25 a.m. local time, signing in at the front desk to visit his estranged lover, Karen Smith with a concealed handgun. ^{[13] [10]}

He was allowed entry to the school and went to her mixed-grade classroom where he opened fire on her and two children standing near her before turning the gun on himself. ^[15]

San Bernardino Police found him and Smith both shot dead in the classroom. The two unidentified children were taken to a local hospital in critical condition. ^[15]

It was later reported that one of the children, 8-year-old Jonathan Martinez, was killed in the shooting. ^[20] Nolan Brandy was later identified as the second child, but he survived. ^[23]
