Career

Since June 2017, Sam Stein has been a Political Editor at The Daily Beast. Stein leads the political team’s coverage of the White House, congress and national politics – working alongside Washington, D.C.. Bureau Chief Jackie Kucinich. [10] [2]

Sam Stein (Journalist) previously spent ten years working for HuffPost. He was one of the first reporters when it launched its D.C. bureau in 2007. After covering Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign, Stein served as the site’s White House Correspondent and in 2009 became the first online reporter to ask the President of the United States a question during a White House news conference. He was named Politics Editor in 2011, and has overseen national political coverage until his departure in 2017. For his work at HuffPost, Stein was recognized as part of the 2011 Forbes 30 Under 30 Media list. [10] [7] [14]

Prior to HuffPost, Stein worked for Newsweek, New York Daily News and the investigative journalism group, Center for Public Integrity.[10] In addition to his reporting, Stein is a Contributor on MSNBC and makes regular appearances on Morning Joe and Hardball with Chris Matthews. He has also engaged and informed audiences across various platforms, including the podcast “Candidate Confessional,” which interviews failed political candidates about their runs for elected office and his expansive Twitter following. Personal Life

Sam Stein (Journalist) married Jessica Leinwand in October 2009 in Vermont. Sam and Jessica first met at Dartmouth College. The couple lives in Washington, D.C.[21]

Stein and his wife welcomed their first child into the world on January 3, 2017. Jamie Alfred Leinwand Stein was born 6 pounds, 9 ounces, and 20 inches.[22]
