Shooting of Loreal Tsingine
On March 27, 2016, officer Austin Shipley responded to a call about Loreal Tsingine acting suspiciously in a store.
She was a suspect in a convenience-store shoplifting that had occurred minutes before.
When Officer Shipley arrives near the vicinity, he parks the car and approaches Tsingine and immediately gives orders for her to turn around.
[1]He then pushes Tsingine to the ground and many prescription medicine falls out of her pocket to the ground, and she begins to walk up to the officer with scissors in her left hand.
Officer Shipley then shoots her five times.
Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery issued a statement excusing Officer Shipley and said he would not pursue criminal charges against him because he was protecting himself and another officer who felt “threatened” by the 100 lb woman.
