Konstantin Ignatov
Konstantin Ignatov
Konstantin Ignatov is a co-founder of OneCoin, a ponzi scheme promoted as a cryptocurrency. He is often recognised as the mastermind behind the OneCoin scam. He pleaded guilty to four criminal counts related to his involvement in the OneCoin project.[1]
Background
Not much is known about his background other than the fact that he lives in Bulgaria with his sister Ruja Ignatova and operates OneLife there. He was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport in March 2019.[2] He is currently jailed in a United States Prison.[2]
Role In OneCoin
Before 2017, Ignatov acted as a close Assistant to Ruja Ignatova, the main figure behind OneCoin. After Ruja's disappearance in 2017, he assumed an administrative roll in the OneCoin project. In a video published by OneLife in December 17th, 2016, Ignatov is introduced as the "Head of Administration of OneLife".
On or about December 2, 2017, Ignatov attended a OneLife event in Bangkok, Thailand in which he identified himself as from the Management Group of OneLife.
In the event he claimed that OneLife was working on a merchant platform named "Dealshaker" which will use OneCoin as the utility token. He claimed that the main website of Dealshaker registered over 50,000 merchants.[3]
On March 4, 2018, Ignatov attended a OneCoin event in Bogota, Columbia. In that specific event, he identified himself as from the "Sofia Management Group" of OneCoin. He was being investigated by the German and Bulgarian authorities at the time. He claimed the investigations related to his involvement in OneCoin were closed. He also claimed that OneCoin blockchain exists and that Dealshaker and OneCoin were legitimate businesses.
Arrest And Conviction
Konstantin Ignatov was arrested on March 6, 2019, at the Los Angeles International Airport, on a wire fraud conspiracy charge stemming from his role in the OneCoin project. The Manhattan U.S. Attorney decribed OneCoin as an "international pyramid scheme that involved the marketing of a fraudulent cryptocurrency called OneCoin.”[4]
