Joshua Schulte
Joshua Adam Schulte is a Senior Software Engineer at Bloomberg in New York. Schulte is also a former software engineer at the CIA, and on 15 May 2018 was identified as the primary suspect in the Vault 7 leak to WikiLeaks, the biggest leak of classified information in CIA history. [1]
Early Life and Education
A native of Lubbock, Texas, Schulte graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in Computer Engineering. [1]
Career
Joshua Schulte worked as a software engineer at IBM from 2008 to 2009. Following a brief stint as a systems engineer at the NSA in 2010, Schulte transferred to the CIA where he worked as a software engineer until 2016 supporting clandestine operations. Schulte returned to the private sector in late 2016 as a senior Software engineer at Bloomberg in New York. [1]
Criminal Allegations
In March 2017, just weeks following the first of the Vault 7 disclosures by WikiLeaks, the FBI raided Schulte's Manhattan apartment and seized computer equipment and documents as well as his passport. During the course of their investigation, the FBI discovered at least 10,000 images of child pornography on his personal computer as well as pictures on his phone dating to April 2015 of Schulte allegedly sexually assaulting a former Virginia roommate, and in August 2017 Schulte was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography. Schulte was released in September 2017, but was arrested again in October 2017, after authorities interviewed aforementioned roommate, and charged with one felony count of object sexual penetration and a misdemeanor count of unlawful creation of an image of another individual. Schulte has been held in Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan since December 2017, and authorities have yet to present evidence of his involvement in the Vault 7 leak.
