Josh Scherer

Josh Scherer (born April 15, 1992) is a food blogger, chef and former journalist. He lives in Los Angeles, California. He is the author of Culinary Bro-Down Cookbook.[2]

Education

Josh Scherer graduated from ofUniversity of California, Los Angeles and University of California, Santa Barbara. He studied Political Science and Government. While studying, he was playing Men's Outdoor Track and Field.[2]

Career

In 2013, Scherer published the first entry for his online blog Culinary Bro-Down, which features a picture of Scherer wearing board shorts and a Corona tank top.

In his blog, Scherer wrote about turning a $15 blender into his food processor, using Keystone Light as his braising liquid and his belief that creatine is an essential food group. [20]

Josh worked in 2014 as an Editorial Intern and later Assistant Editor at TakePart. His blog Culinary Bro-Down was named a finalist for best writing in Saveur's Best Food Blog Awards 2014. In 2015-2016, he was a Columnist at Maxim. These years, he worked also as a Food Editor at Los Angeles Magazine.[2][4]

In 2017, Josh's first book, The Culinary Bro-Down Cookbook, was published by Grand Central life & style.[4]

Personal Life

Scherer’s parents didn’t cook so he grew up on frozen food and microwavable meals, but honed his culinary skills by constantly watching Food Network. At 6 years old, Scherer snuck away from his babysitter, and despite his fear of the stovetop flame, made himself a grilled Cheese Sandwich. In an interview with DailyBruin, he said:

“Even as a little kid, I knew how to cook.

I could see how the ingredients came together in the pan.

It’s always been innate.”[20]

“It’s insane that cooking is looked at like an incredible specialty skill.

The rest of the world, every age group, cooks because that’s how you get food in your mouth and not die.”[20]

Social Media

As of November 2019, Josh has 162,000 followers on his mythicalchefjosh Instagram. He usually posts food, gym photos and photos with friends. He also has 36,500 followers on his MythicalChef Twitter.[6]
