Death
On the evening of April 29th, Edwards was attending a large party with friends in Balch Springs. When police responded, a gunshot was fired. Although it was first reported that a vehicle aggressively backed towards the police car, it was later reported that the vehicle containing Edwards was actually driving away. [6] Roy Oliver then shot at the vehicle, hitting a front seat passenger in the head, later to be identified as Edwards. His death has been ruled a homicide. [0]
Commenting on the incident, Balch Springs Police Chief Jonathan Haber said that he "misspoke" on Sunday and after reviewing body cam footage said "I unintentionally, incorrectly said the vehicle was backing down the road... according to the video, the vehicle was moving forward as the officer approached."
[6]Oliver has since been terminated from his position.
