Christy Byrd Sheats is a 42 year old mother who lived in Houston, Texas suburban area. She was originally from Decatur, Alabama. She was married to Jason Sheats and had two daughters Taylor Sheats and Madison Sheats. The family lived together in a suburban home located west of Houston in a Katy, Texas. Her oldest daughter Taylor was going to marry Juan Sebastian Lugo, her boyfriend of five years on June 27, 2016.

Christy Byrd Sheats identifies as a conservative Republican and a Baptist Christian. She was a gun owner and vocal advocate for the second amendment. She also made Facebook posts about how she loved her daughters.

Christy struggled with mental health issues.

Police had been called to her home in Katy, Texas, 14 times since 2012.

Christy Sheats worked as a business Manager at Clean Canvas Laser, a tattoo removal company. She studied at Bauder College and recieved an Associate of Arts (A.A.), Business, Management t, Marketing, and Related Support Services. She previously owned her own business Patches n' Pink Pickles. She has also worked as an executive assistant, marketing assistant, and a hair stylist.

Murder

On Friday June 24, 2016 at around 5 p.m Christy Sheats shot her daughters Taylor and Madison Sheats with a pistol outside their home in Houston after a family argument.

Police shot and killed Christy after they arrived at the scene and Christy refused to drop her weapon.

Taylor died at the scene and her sister, Madison, was airlifted to the Texas Medical Center, where she couldn’t be saved.

The shooting took place on Christy's husband Jason Sheats' 45th birthday while he was at the home. He told Christy, ‘Don’t do this. They’re our kids.’ however he failed to stop the shooting. He was taken to a nearby hospital because he was suffering from emotional distress.
