Christopher Cantwell
Christopher Charles Cantwell (b.
November 12, 1980) [20]is an American White nationalist, [21] White supremacist, [22]talk radio personality, political commentator. He gained notoriety after he starred in a Vice documentary reporting on his participation in the Unite the Right rally. [6]
Cantwell has been nicknamed "The Crying Nazi" after crying in the documentary.
Background
Early life
According to his conversations with Hatewatch, his father was an air traffic controller; it was confirmed after finding his father’s name in an online roster for the National Air Traffic Controllers Association. Cantwell said that President Ronald Reagan fired his dad in 1981 as part of a mass termination of more than 11,000 striking members of the air traffic controllers union who had refused the president’s order to return to work. [9]
For a while, Cantwell said his father had to make do “mowing lawns and shit,” while his mother kept house and attempted, unsuccessfully, to raise him as a Catholic.
Meanwhile, he went to school “with a bunch of rich assholes,” ran with a bad crowd and ended up involved “in a lot of crazy shit,” which resulted in incarceration when he was 19.
Criminal Record
In 2000, at the age of 20, Cantwell pleaded guilty to 5th-degree criminal possession of stolen property, 4th-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and driving while intoxicated; all these charges were misdemeanors.
According to Suffolk County District Court records, he was sentenced to six months in jail.
Cantwell said he served four months and was then released.
In 2009, Christopher Cantwell was charged with a DUI.
He took a plea deal and was sentenced to 45 days incarceration; he served 28 days before being released.
Politics
In 2009, he ran as a Libertarian in the First congressional district of New York. Around this time, he admitted to having a criminal record.
His campaign failed to gather the appropriate signatures to place his name on the ballot.
Violence
Chris has been vocal about his violent tendencies as a disgruntled White nationalist in America. He claims that he has considered going on a killing rampage, “like one of these guys like Jerad Miller” who in 2014, along with Jerad’s wife Amanda, killed two Las Vegas police officers and one civilian in an explosion of anti-government rage, with Jerad dying in a shootout with police and a wounded Amanda committing suicide. [9]
He is quoted as saying, “I was going to go out blasting...and take as many of them with me as I could.”
Racism
Chris never started out as a racist when it came to politics until the police climate of 2015 and 2016 forced him to express notions about racism that he had kept inside for most of his life.
During a programming with Free Talk Live, there were complaints that he had been using too many racist terms and stereotypes on the show, and was later dismissed.
He began to have his own show where he expressed his views in a more safe light without the obligations of other people correcting his work.
Slowly, The Daily Stormer would reference his videos and he began to create a connection with other figures from the Alt right such as Richard Spencer. [9]
Unite the Right Rally
On August 16, 2017, a video surfaced on the internet in which he tears up after learning that there is a warrant out for his arrest.
