Christie Battista is an Emmy Award winning American Journalist and reporter who works at the WCIA station, Champaign, Illinois, United States. She is popular as 'Morning news anchor' on channel 3.[1]
Early Life
Christie Battista was born and brought up in Chicago. She is very close to her parents, Jim and Gina and elder siblings Jimmy, Mary Jo and Danny, and their spouses. She is an American national. She always watched all the big-timers on the local news when she was in school. [3]
Education
Christie completed her schooling from Trinity High School in River Forest, Illinois. She went to Michigan State University, Elmwood Park, Illinois and attended Big Ten business school. Battista started out as a theater major, she quickly developed an interest in journalism and she found Journalism was a more attainable goal than Broadway. She studied mostly print journalism, but was able to take that experience into a TV career. She went to London and Dublin, Ireland, as part of a five-week journalism program. She graduated with a bachelors degree in Journalism in 2013.[2] During her study at MSU, She lived in the same dorm as 13 News Today anchor 'Elliot Grandia', although they didn’t know each other at the time.[3]
Career
Christie joined Wrex-TV, Rockford, Illinois in 2013, as a News Intern in just three days after graduating from Michigan State University. She was promoted to the position of reporter/multi-media journalist soon. She progressed so well in her work and promoted to to the station’s newly revamped morning show in just 8 months. She joined Elliot Grandia and meteorologist Morgan Kolkmeyer on the show. This is what she says about that promotion...
"It came as a complete surprise,” she says.
“I knew there was an opening, but I wasn’t thinking about it.
When management asked me if I would be interested in becoming the morning reporter, I said, ‘Sure, I don’t mind getting up at 2 a.m.’ I was excited for the opportunity.”
She worked as an anchor for the morning show till 2015.
She joined NBC 15, Madison, WI in 2016 as a MultiMedia Journalist and worked there till 2018. She conducted many top rated Interviews on the Morning show there. [10] She left NBC in 2018 to work at WCIA. She has been working on WCIA over 2 years now and she is very popular as Morning News Anchor on WCIA channel 3. [1]
Personal Life
Christie lives in Champaign, Illinois. When she is not working, she enjoys cooking and spending time with her pup, 'Lola'. During her stay at Rockford, She has volunteered many local nonprofit organizations, such as Healing Pathways Cancer Resource Center, The Harkins Foundation and KFACT -a youth development and mentoring group that offers support to teenage girls attending Rockford Public Schools.[3]
