Background
Vildana "Sunni" Purić was born in the small village of Donji Purići, Bosnia, where she lived until the age of nine. Following the outbreak of the Bosnian War, Purić and her family fled their home, first to Velika Kladuša near the border with Croatia, and then to Croatia itself where they would spend the next three years living in refugee camps. In 's family was granted permission by the US State Department to immigrate to the United States, and they settled in Hamtramck, Michigan, where her paternal uncle already lived. Purić and her siblings quickly learned English by watching television programs such as Family Matters , and Purić gained fluency in six months. [1]
Career
After graduating high school, Purić got her start in radio as an intern at WJLB in Detroit, where she ultimately worked her way up to part-time on-air personality. Purić adopted the moniker"SunShyne" which she subsequently shortened to "Sunni". After being laid off in mid-2010 as a result of the Clear Channel buyout, Purić briefly tried her hand at blogging with Necole Kane in Miami and New York before returning to the airwaves in 2011 on WPGC in Washington, DC. Purić now co-hosts Joe Clair Morning Show on weekdays from 6:00am to 10:00am EST. [1]
