Vaughn Hillyard schooled at Thunderbird High School in Phoenix, Arizona in the class of 2009. He went on to attend Arizona State University, where he received Bachelor's degree in journalism. ^[2]

Vaughn Hillyard bedan his career as an Editorial Assistant at Arizona State Office of Bureau of Land Management. From 2010-2011, he worked as a Reporter at The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com. During 2011, he was a Political Fact Checker at KPNX. From May to July 2011, Hillyard worked as a Multimedia Intern at Investigative Reporting Workshop.
