Early Life
Sidney Fussell grew up in a Little Rock, Arkansas during the 1990s, a time where the city was plagued by gang violence. Fussell was raised by a single mother. Fussell lived in a largely black neighborhood was part of the Arkansas Majority to Minority (M-to-M) transfer program which was designed to reduce racial segregation in schools. He was bused to a magnet school in a majority white neighborhood. Fussell had no trouble making friends at the magnet school, however he no friends outside of school since none of the children in his neighborhood went to the magnet school. Fussell also generally had trouble fitting in with the other kids in his neighborhood. To fill the void, and avoid the violence in the neighborhood, his mother bought him video games, which became Fussell's escape.
Career
Sidney Fussell has been a Staff Writer for The Atlantic since September 2018. He covers technology and has written articles about surveillance, artificial intelligence, ethics, and bias in algorithms. [1]Fussell has also written about topics including video games, race, stereotypes, diversity in the technology industry, and entertainment.
