Career
Prior to moving to New York CNN bureau, Shimon Prokupecz was based in the network's Washington, D.C.. bureau, where he played an integral role in covering the investigation examining Russian meddling in U.S. elections. Throughout his time at the network, Prokupecz has reported on the Mueller Investigation, the Justice Department bringing charges against Senator Bob Menendez, the 2016 Pulse Nightclub shooting and more.[1]
In an interview with Politico, Prokupecz said about his start in journalism:
“I never intended on going into journalism, I was planning on going to law school.
However, I needed basic credits to graduate and an internship was going to fulfill those requirements.
I saw an ad for intern night at WABC-TV, but the date had passed.
I was still curious, so I called the intern coordinator at the station and asked her if there was any way I could get in.
At first, she said no, but would keep me posted if a position opened.
As luck would have it, days later I got a call that someone had dropped out from the investigative unit and I could come in for an interview.
I quit my job at the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office and turned the internship into a full-time job.
I was hired at the assignment desk and worked weekends and overnights.
It was the best experience of my life and I fell in love with news.
I then took a job at WNBC-TV, and soon after CNN called in 2013 and I was hired as a producer.
Six years later, I’m a CNN correspondent covering what I’m most passionate about — breaking news and the criminal justice system.”[26]
