Shasta Darlington is an international Correspondent for CNN based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She has over 20 years of journalism experience throughout Latin America and Europe.
Career

From 1997-2001, Darlington worked as a correspondent for Bloomberg and then Reuters in Brazil, where she covered the drug wars, economic crisis, and prison riots. Before moving to Brazil, she worked for the Los Angeles Times in Mexico City, Mexico. When she was based in São Paulo, Darlington has covered stories such as the Zika virus outbreak, the suspension of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, and the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic games.
Before joining CNN as a field producer in 2006, Darlington worked for four years as a correspondent for Reuters in Italy.
During this time, she reported on the death of Pope John Paul II, the term of Silvio Berlusconi, and the Italian leadership of the European Union.
Since joining CNN as a Havana-based producer in 2006, Darlington has covered a wide range of stories ranging from Fidel Castro's illness, his handover to his brother Raúl Castro, and the first years of his succession. Darlington covered the 2008 hurricane season, in which she served as a field producer, chasing the three hurricanes that ripped across the Island. She contributed to the network’s award-winning coverage of the earthquake in Haiti in 2010. And while based in Havana, she travelled extensively to Brazil, where she covered the 2011 floods in Rio de Janeiro state and the 2010 Presidential elections.[8]
Education
She earned Bachelors of Arts in English literature and Spanish from Middlebury College.
