Sara Rubin

Sara Rubin is a director, writer, producer, filmmaker and illustrator based in Los Angeles, California. She also works for BuzzFeed, where she pioneered the company’s forays into narrative shorts and thoughtful unscripted videos.[1]

Career

Sara is known for her relatable writing style, playfully surreal visual sensibility, and her artistic flexibility.

She is also a visual artist who utilizes a variety of media.[1]

In April 2013, she began working full-time for BuzzFeed, rising from an intern to her current position, Senior Video Producer.

As one of the first producers of BuzzFeed's video department, she developed new video formats, ie. "Taste Tests" that defined BuzzFeed's identity and sparked video trends across the internet.

She also utilises data analysis and iteration in her projects, allowing them to amass hundreds of millions of views across YouTube and Facebook.[2] She has also worked with celebrities[7][8] and starred in a series on iTunes.[9]

At BuzzFeed, she ideates, writes, produces and edits hundreds of videos for BuzzFeed's various verticals.

There, she makes narrative scripted shorts, unscripted food, beauty, fashion, style, history and science videos, unscripted and scripted series pilots, and an interactive murder mystery series.

She has also worked both independently and lead initiatives within BuzzFeed, focusing on special projects and innovative content types.[2]

Before her time at BuzzFeed, Sara interned at Ghost Robot Productions, Powderhouse Productions and the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.[2]

Education

Sara graduated Summa Cum Laude from Emerson College in 2012, with a Bachelor of Arts in Cinematography and Film/Video Production.[2]

Personal Life

Sara was born on October 23, 1989 and her astrological sign is Scorpio.

She enjoys Jewish deli and believes in the existence of Champ, a prehistoric sea monster that is living in Lake Champlain, New York.[1]

She owns a male orange tabby cat named Obi. Her boyfriend is Shane Madej, a fellow Video Producer at BuzzFeed. She is also very passionate about goats.[1]
