Controversy
2018
In 2018, Sameera Khan posted a variety of tweets defending Joseph Stalin. [16] She posted multiple memes about Stalin’s gulags. [14] [15] On October 8, 2018, she apologized for the gulag memes, stating she found out that the information in the memes she shared was "inaccurate." In the tweet, she said:
I also in no way intended to make light of the tragic mass persecutions they took place under the Stalin regime and I again apologize for sharing this misleading and offensive information. [10]

Khan wrote:
“Which Hollywood dumbass thought it would be a good idea to cast an Israeli actress as Cleopatra (a very bland looking one) instead of a stunning Arab actress like Nadine Njeim?
And shame on you, Gal Gadot.
Your country steals Arab land & you’re stealing their movie roles... [shaking my head]”.[29]
Later, she retweeted another user who said: “Whatever you think of her being cast as Cleopatra, never forget that Gal Gadot proudly served (and continues to support) a colonial army notorious for maiming and murdering civilians.”[29]
Israeli journalist Sarah Tuttle-Singer responded to Kahn’s tweet, writing: “Sucks when a woman in power belittles another woman for her ‘bland’ looks. Also, Cleopatra was neither Arab nor African nor Israeli. She was Macedonian Greek.” Kahn responded to Tuttle-Singer, saying “Cleopatra was part Greek and part Berber. That’s what we know for sure. Scholars have been debating this topic for centuries now.”[30]
In October, Tibetans demanded an apology from Khan after she posted a series of tweets since Oct. 17 that said the Tibetan leader Dalai Lama is “World’s most loved ex-slave owner” and condemned the US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her admiration of the Tibetan leader. She continued to make remarks about Dalai Lama, stating that he owned “6,170 field serfs and 102 house slaves” and performed Buddhist rituals with human skin peeled off slaves. [32]
Tibetan MP Namgyal Dolkar Lhagyari told Phayul.com about Khan's initial reaction, “I was appalled when I saw it but calmed myself to check her past Twitter posts which further confirmed to me that she’s deliberately posting CCP propaganda on His Holiness and Tibet using a free social media platform. This sends out a message to Tibetans in the free world to keep our online attention on China and engage our allies too in keeping our freedom movement focused forward more than ever.”[32]
