Mentorships
Stuart Peterson
After making good moves with his hedge fund, he wanted to scale his network, something he felt was not a strength.
He went on to meet Stuart Peterson from Artis Ventures who introduced him to the start-up culture of Silicon Valley. He saw the early operations of a company like Juicero and was able to meet Doug Evans. He went on to start pitching in around the Artis Ventures office as an investment intern.
Gil Penchina
Through Core, a VC Firm he would later give his services for, he met Gil Penchina.
He spent nearly 7 months working with Gil, in order to understand Angel investing like an expert.
Lender's Exchange
He founded his own start-up called Lender's Exchange, a secondary exchange marketplace. He decided to pull the plug in its early stage as he foresaw a crippling time in the sector he was in.
Core
One of the VC firms he became acquainted with was Core, which impressed him quite a lot for their understanding of the financial sector.
The VC is a $150 million firm that exclusively invests in financial services-oriented startups that provide upward mobility to everyday Americans.
Abstract Ventures
Ramtin started his VC firm, Abstract Ventures, when Stuart and Doug gave him direct access to invest in Juicero and he thought the best way to do this was to start his own fund.
Every deal that Naimi does is structured as a special purpose vehicle.
He doesn’t take a management fee on the SPV, and he draws down capital for deals on a deal-by-deal basis.
The idea is to invest in six big, borderline crazy ideas a year, nothing incremental.
They invest in companies that have the mentality of go big or go home.
In 2017, about $16 million was put to work in over 30 deals in the last six months alone.
