Quilty The Cat (born May, 2013) is an American Instagram Star, feline and former resident at the Houston Friends for Life Animal Rescue and Adoption Organization in Texas. The cat went viral after his successful attempts at breaking out of his room at the shelter were posted online in November of 2019.[1]
Early Life

Quilty is a six year old tabby cat. Born at The Friends for Life Animal Rescue and Adoption Organization, Quilty resided there until he was adopted. Unfortunately, his new owner had to relocate and could not take Quilty along. It was then the kitty returned to the shelter, where he continues to live today.[2]
Breakout!
As a long time resident, Quilty the cat calls the shelter his home. The Friends for Life Animal Rescue and Adoption Organization has an 'free roam' model with their felines, where instead of being kept in individual cages, the cats are allowed to share a common, bigger space.[1] Quilty takes advantage of the setup frequently, and has learn to open the doors and is often found in various locations around the shelter. Even the other cats join in on the jailbreak fun, with the staff chasing after them.[10]
Quilty's successful attempts at breaking out result in the Hairy Houdini being put in solitary confinement. That doesn't prevent him from further attempts, Quilty has been known to barge into staff meetings randomly.
Social Media Stardom
On the shelter's social media posts, a spokesperson said,
"We don't want to 'Sarah McLachlan' anyone with our communications; bringing a new family member into your home should be a joyful experience.
We want to create more of that in the world, and if it means calling a cat a 'spicy a-hole,' then we're your people."[2]
Quilty has even been mentioned on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on a segment titled "A Sprinkling of Sunshine."[20]
Adoption
On November 15, 2019 it was announced that Quilty was adopted by Traci Patterson and her family.
He has a new handle on Instagram, @quilty.chronicles where fans can keep updated on his new home and lifestyle. He can be seen on the account posing alongside gifts from brands such as Bissell vacuums and Heb Grocery.[22]
