Formerly known as ProteJay the Prodigy, Jay Allen, born Jared Allen Jones, is an American hip-hop artist from Inglewood, CA.
Musical Style
Jay Allen is known for his fast delivery and complex wordplay.
His beats feature heavy 808s and unique samples, creating a new school sound unlike any other.
He is a true master of Fruity Loops, a digital audio workstation that is gaining popularity from producers such as Hit-Boy, Boi-1da, Oliver Heldens and Avicii.
Influences
Drawing from an eclectic body of unique and influential artists, Jay found inspiration in skilled lyricists with masterful delivery.
Outkast, Nas, Eminem, and Ice Cube were among some of his earliest influences, but he has attributed much of his recent inspiration to rappers like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and Kanye West.
As a producer, Jay initially emulated sample-based and "Boom-bap" style artists like Pete Rock, DJ Premier, and Dr Dre. After developing his production, he began drawing inspiration from producers like Kanye West, Noah "40" Shebib, Vinylz, Mike Will, Metro Boomin, and Boi-1da.
Personal Life
Jay Allen, born Jared Allen Jones, has been rapping for nearly a decade.
Growing up in Los Angeles, Jared was exposed to hip-hop from a very young age.
By the time he was in high school, he was producing full mixtapes with little more than a mouse and a microphone.
He is currently the President of California Records, an independent music label in it's early growth stage. The label's other co-founders, Semantics and Jeff Zheng, met Jared while he was attending UC Berkeley. After dropping out of Berkeley, Jared continued his education at Long Beach City College. In fall of 2016, Jared transferred to UCLA to complete his degree in Economics.

2007-2012: Earlier Works
Jay Allen began rapping in 2007, initiating schoolyard freestyles and cyphers with classmates.
His sophomore year of high school, he released a mixtape titled May 27th.
