Piotr Konieczny

Piotr Konieczny is a volunteer at WikiMedia,[1] and a sociologist at Hanyang University.[4]

Wikipedia Controversy

In September 2009 he was exposed by WikiLeaks to be a member of the Wikipediametric Mailing List with the username Piotrus. [2] Konieczny developed a plan to create fake users to get elected to CheckUser and over administrative positions in Wikipedia. Konieczny claimed that that his plans were "never actual" and that their publication was a "fake news" operation by Russians.[4]

Konieczny continues to edit Wikipedia as of June 2018. [3]

In 2019, Haaretz journalist Omer Benjakob reported that far-right nationalists were still coordinating on Wikipedia.

They were involved in maintaining Wikipedia's longest hoax of a non-existent extermination camp (for Poles) in Warsaw for 15 years.

Konieczny was involved in rewriting articles on Jewish ghettos to include disproportionate "Holocaust rescue" content, in some cases half of the article.

In his defense Konieczny claimed mainstream institutions "under research" the topic.[4]

In 2020, historian Jan Grabowski (historian) described in Gazeta Wyborcza how Konieczny (Piotrus) and fellow militant nationalists systematically falsified entries on Wikipedia related to Polish-Jewish relations.[5]
