Owen Higgins and James Lavin
Owen Higgins was a 17-year-old senior student and athlete at Falmouth High School. He lived in East Falmouth, MA but is originally from Framingham. He is remembered for his work ethic on the field and for being a genuine and caring person off of it.
Athletic Career
Higgins was a standout on his high school's football and hockey teams.
As the football team's starting nose guard this year, he helped lead Falmouth to an undefeated season and the Massachusetts Division 2A state title.
Higgins wore the number 44 and would use his signature spin move to wreak havoc on his opponents.
In the weight room, Higgins max bench was 210 lbs and max squat was 430 lbs.
Higgins was a forward on his high school's hockey team and was one of the team's top scorers of the 2015-2016 season.
Death
On the evening of December 22nd, Owen and his friend James Lavin were driving home from hockey practice. At around 6:42 pm, their vehicle crashed into a tree on Thomas Landers Road. Lavin died from his injuries while Higgins was flown to the hospital. Several Facebook posts mistakenly indicated that Owen died in the crash, but Police confirmed that Owen was on life support. He later died from his injuries. The authorities are investigating the incident
A GoFundMe has been established to help Owen's family pay for funeral expenses. Any leftover money will be used towards a scholarship in his honor.
