Bryson Potts (born November 1, 2002), known professionally as NLE Choppa, is a rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. He is best known for his song, "Shotta Flow" which received over 19 million views on YouTube in less than two months. [1] [2]
Early Life
NLE Choppa grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and attended Cordova High School. He also played for the school's basketball team. [10]
Name
When asked about the origin and meaning behind behind his rap name in an interview with HipHopDX, NLE Choppa said "NLE stands for No Love Entertainment. Just showing no love, took that part of myself and turned it into a brand. Choppa just a name people back home call me." [9]

NLE Choppa began freestyling with his friends at 14, started taking it seriously at age 15 and had millions of views and major-label interest shortly after his 16th birthday. He first got his buzz from "No Chorus Pt. 3," a song and video from his crew Shotta Fam on which Choppa kicks off the song off and steals the show according to critics. [2] On January 10, 2019, NLE Choppa released the music video for his breakout hit "Shotta Flow". The video received more than 12 million views in less than three months. The visual for his breakout record shows himself dancing and swinging weapons. His follow-up record, "Shotta Flow 2," received a million views in less than a week. [2]
According to critics his flows and stylistic choices recall his friend and fellow hometown rapper BlocBoy JB.
However, his intensity, voice and dark sense of humor make him standout.
On January 30, 2019 they released a music video together called "ChopBloc". [2]
In February 2019, NLE Choppa turned down a $3 million record deal, instead opting for a distribution partnership with UnitedMasters, a company that distributes his music while he retains full ownership of his master recordings. [2] On March 14, 2019, rap veterans Birdman and Juvenile released the single and music video "Dreams" featuring NLE Choppa. [11]
