Rowland is the Washington bureau chief of The Boston Globe. He graduated from the University of Arizona. He is the son of Susan Rowland of Brooklyn and George Briggs Rowland of San Diego, and the stepson of Cassidy Rowland and the late Charles Proctor Sifton. Rowland's previous marriage ended in divorce.[4]
