Education
Monica Alba completed her undergrad studies at the University of Southern California, attending from 2005- 2009, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism. [1]
At USC, Monica Alba was a member of the Latino Honor Society. [1] She then went on to attend Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism from 2011- 2012, receiving a MS in documentary filmmaking. [1]
Career
Monica Alba first interned at Telemundo Media from June 2006 - August 2006. She at that point joined Annenberg TV News as a maker, anchor, and journalist from August 2005 - May 2009.
From September 2007-May 2009, Alba functioned as a Production Coordinator at Chain Camera Pictures.
In 2012, she started her profession at NBC News interning as a NBC Latino.
In August 2012, Alba turned into a
News Associate at NBC News.
Afterward, she likewise filled in as an Assistant and Associate Producer.
From 2017-2019, she was a White House Producer.
Since April 2019, Alba has been a
Political Reporter at NBC News.[2]
In a meeting with Politico in August 2020, Alba told about her beginning in reporting:
“I started by writing some sports stories for my high school newspaper and thought that was what I wanted to cover but then I fell in love with long-form storytelling and documentaries, which led me to investigative reporting.
I’ve been so lucky to have many different gigs in my time at NBC News but, by far, my favorite assignment came in 2016 as a campaign embed, which is ultimately how I got to Washington covering the White House.”[18]

Personal Life
Monica hails from San Jose, California. She is a daughter of Mari Alba and Manuel Alba.[15]
Alba and Dan Patrick Merica were married July 27, 2019 at West Shore Cafe and Inn in Homewood, California. J. P. Alanís, Monica's brother-in-law who became a Universal Life minister for the occasion, officiated on the shores of Lake Tahoe. The couple first met in Manchester, N.H., in August 2015 while covering Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, but did not start dating until the following spring.[15]
In an interview with Politico in August 2020, Alba told she is in fond of soccer:
“I come from a family of soccer fanatics and have been to the last five World Cups (six when you count the Women’s World Cup in Paris last year, which actually doubled as my bachelorette party).
Unclear if we’ll make it to Qatar in 2022, but I can say with certainty we’ll be at the tournament in 2026 when it’s hosted by the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
