"“He is the greatest athlete in the history of the school, bar none,"
Although he's billed as a tight end, Michael Mayer (Football) has also played as a linebacker. He committed to Notre Dame after meeting with Notre Dame defensive backs coach Todd Lyght in 2017. Mayer enjoyed his experience playing ball in high school: [1]
"All three years of football have been awesome.
Obviously this is my last year.
It really hasn’t hit me yet.
This is my last summer out here with the coaches and my teammates and everything.
I am just trying to enjoy it as much as it lasts"
Mayer wasn't always into football though, head coach of Covington, Eddie Eviston said: [4]
"He almost didn't play high school football, which is crazy to think about.
Now he's sitting here as the top player in his position in the country.
His hard work, his dedication to his craft, the support from everyone here...He does all these appearances, camp invites, all these things people don't realize are going on behind closed doors.
Michael has handled everything with grace and it's been incredible to watch."
In 2020, Michel will be participating in the 2020 All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas. [4]
