Larissa Martinez is a valedictorian from McKinney Boyd High School. She was born in Mexico City and relocated to United States of America at the age of 11 with her mother and sister. Her mother fled the country with her young daughters as an escape from their abusive and alcoholic father.

Undocumented Valedictorian

On June 8th, 2016, Larissa revealed during her valedictorian speech to her entire graduating class and the rest of the audience that she's an undocumented immigrant.

I decided to stand before you today, and reveal these unexpected realities because this might be the only chance I get to convey the truth to all of you, that undocumented immigrants are people too.

Those are only half truths.

They are the expectations.

Larissa Martinez will be attending Yale University with a full scholarship.  Her plans are to be a part of their pre-med programs and become a neurosurgeon.
