On December 9, 2013 15-year-old Keston Charles was running away with his back to the police when NYPD officer Jonathan Rivera fired 16 shots at him hitting him three times.

On August 26, 2016 video of the shooting was released.

The police shooting of is now being compared with that of Tamir Rice after surveillance video reveals the 15-year-old posed no threat at the time.

The shooting occurred after Keston grabbed a friends BB gun and pointed it at another teen.

NYPD officers including Jonathan Rivera saw Keston and started chasing him.

Officer Jonathan Rivera started firing while Keston was fleeing, the first shot he took hit Keston in the butt.

Although Keston is seen glancing back at the cops he does not turn towards them.

Officer Jonathan Rivera continued shooting at Keston after he surrendered and put both hands above his head clearly showing that he was unarmed and not a threat.

The two shots hit Keston in his side and chest.

The NYPD firearms discharge review board found the shooting was justified and within department guidelines for the use of deadly force.

The officers involved in the shooting were never disciplined.

After the shooting Keston had to be put in a medically induced coma for three weeks then underwent surgery and later recovered.

Keston later pleaded guilty in Family Court to possessing a fake pistol.
