Katy Blakey is a North Texas native Journalist who currently work for NBC 5 News as a anchor and news reporter. Katy has previously worked with KOCO-TV and KTE-TV as a reporter. She graduated from Southern Methodist University and she currently lives in Dallas with her husband.[1]
Education and Early Life
Katy Blakey was born and brought up in McKinney, Texas. She attended McKinney High School and Southern Methodist University (SMU) where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Journalism in 2006. While in college, she was the senior class president and a recipient of Hunt Leadership Scholarship.
Career
Katy Blakey journalism career starting by interning at Belo Corporation where she researched and also also engage in field produced.
She started working as a reporter and anchor at KTEN-TV, Denison, Texas where she anchored three hours of morning news. At Texas, she did an investigative reports on private jail funding which resulted into resignations and changes in local enforcement. She was also part of morning team for all Next Media radio stations in Texas, delivering news & entertainment.
She served as an anchor and reporter for KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City, from June 2011 to November 2014. At KOCO-TV, she anchored station's fast-paced weekday morning show in aggressive breaking news market and she was able to increase weekend morning show rating from 3rd to first within a year. She was the first reporter on the scene of a deadly medical helicopter crash, her reporting also included a hostage situation ending with the rescue of a six-year-old girl, devastating wildfires and severe storms.
She joined the NBC 5 team in January of 2015 where she anchors NBC 5 News weekend evenings and reports during the week. She has won an Emmy Award and has been nominated for several others.[1][15][16]
Personal Life
Katy Blakey lives with her husband in Dallas, Texas.
She loves spending her time with family and friends, and also loves taking a walk around White Rock Lake with her dog.
