Joy Lane, also known as Joy Car, is the ex-girlfriend of Steve Stephens. Stephens is known for recording his Murder of Robert Godwin, Sr., an Innocent senior citizen and uploading it to Facebook after his breakup with her.

Joy works as a Clinical supervisor at the Murtis Taylor Human Services System clinic in Cleveland. More specifically, she is the Clinical Supervisor of Children's Behavioral Health department and in charge of leading a community-based team of Therapists and Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment (CPST) workers. Joy is also an adjunct faculty member of the at Cleveland State University, teaching at the university's School of social work. In her role, she oversees field placements for students at community-based organizations.

Joy also previously worked as a Clinical Supervisor at Mature Services.

She also worked as a Case Manager/Therapist at Beech Brook. Steve Stephens had also worked as a Case Manager at Beech Brook and it is possible they met there. She is a veteran and previously served in the United States Air Force.

Joy graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Master's degree in Social Administration / Non-Profit Management in 2009. She graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice in 2004.

Joy currently lives in Cleveland, Ohio. She previously lived in San Antonio, Texas, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona.

According to Steve in his pre-shooting manifesto, he had dated Joy Lane for three years.

Joy confirmed that they had been in a long-term relationship and that he had been a nice guy who was good to her children in a text to CBS News. He thought that she was the love of his life and that they would get married, however, they later broke up. In the video he also blamed his gambling addiction on Joy Lane, saying that she drove him to gamble and lose everything he owned. However, in the video, he also blamed his mother Maggie Green for the lack of concern she showed him.

On April 16, 2017 (Easter Sunday), at about 11:00 a.m., Steve Stephens uploaded a video on Facebook from his car. He starts off by saying, "Found somebody I want to kill. I'm gonna kill this guy right here. He's an old dude, too."

The man he was referring to was 74-year-old man Robert Godwin, Sr., who was walking on 635 East 93rd Street in Cleveland, Ohio. He was reportedly collecting aluminum cans.

Steve Stephens approaches Godwin and says, "Can you do me a favor?

Can you say 'Joy Lane' ?'" Puzzled at his request, Godwin repeats the name in question. Steve Stephens tells him that what is about to happen to him is because of her. Within seconds, Stevie Steve pulls a gun out and shoots Godwin in the head at point blank. He shows the dead body on the sidewalk. He then returned to his car and drove away.

About an hour later, around 3:00 p.m., Steve Stephens filmed another Facebook Live event.

He talks on the phone to someone saying that he snapped and "messed up."

claiming to have killed 12 people.

It has not been verified whether he killed other people on Easter Sunday.

Steve's Facebook has been deactivated.

It was later revealed that he posted a Facebook Live video before he murdered Robert Godwin Sr. In what is being called his video manifesto, he mentions that Joy Lane was his girlfriend and they were supposed to get married. After being with her for three years, he reached a breaking point and he abruptly left her on April 14th. He also mentioned his mother, Maggie Green, and said that she created the monster he is.

In a Facebook post before the incident, Steve blames his Joy Lane for his actions. He claimed on to have killed 12 people and says, "I'm the #goodguy."

In another Facebook post, he said the number of people he killed increased to 15.

The user called it his "Easter day slaughter."

On the night of Robert Godwin's murder, the search has turned into a multistate manhunt.

The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Steve Stephens' arrest. Police got in touch with him once but refused to turn himself in.

It was reported that police picked up a ping from Steve Stephens' cell phone on the east side of Erie County, Pennsylvania.

Steve drove a white-colored 2013-2017 Ford Fusion and is registered with temporary plates. His plate numbers were E3636330.

Police received an aggravated murder warrant for the capture of Steven.

He was eventually found in Erie, Pennsylvania after police received a tip from a McDonald's employee that someone who matched his description was at their drive-thru. He ordered Chicken McNuggets and French fries, but the server stalled on giving him the fries so that police could arrive, which ultimately thwarted him - even though he drove off without waiting for the fries.

He was found by cops moments after and Stephens eventually shot himself dead after the pursuit.
