Joseph Nahmad is an art dealer and business executive. He is the founder of Nahmad Contemporary.
Early Life & Education
Joseph Nahmad grew up in a family of art dealers.
He went to auctions as early as the age of 5.
He skipped college, in pursuit of a career similar to his family members'.
However, he was interested in buying contemporary art; his father has gone on record stating that any art made after 1965 is "almost a fraud."
Career
Beginnings
Joseph Nahmad got into the art dealership business when he was 19 years old. The first piece he bought was one of Lucio Fontana's Concetto Spaziale canvases while he was at Sotheby's Institute of Art. He bought it for £1.8 million after he could not get a hold of his father David Nahmad, a well-known art dealer.
According to Joseph, his father was not happy about the decision, as he sold the very same painting 40 years prior for about $2,000.
Eventually, he had his first gallery opening.
The exhibit, called "Blind," featured works by Roy Nachum.

Nahmad's focus in leading contemporary artists who rose in the 1980's.
His gallery also features a selection of other modern artists from the 20th century, as well as recent works by select artists working today.
