James Clancy competed as a professional boxer from 2003 to 2007.
He compiled a professional record of nine wins and one loss while competing in the heavyweight division.
He was trained by Jimmy Gifford.
In his professional debut on March 17, 2003 he ko'd Dan Veskovic at The Roxy in Boston, Massachusetts. It was his only stoppage victory. James is six feet one inches tall and he used his long reach to box out of the orthodox stance to pile up points and win decision victories.

Clancy defeated Harold Rodriguez on March 18, 2005 at Foxwoods Resort Casino. Foxwoods Resort Casino is a hotel and casino complex owned and operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe on its reservation located in Ledyard, Connecticut. It includes six casinos and the resort covers an area of 9,000,000 square feet.
Defeated Mitchell Rose
He won a decision on June 30, 2006 against Tyrone Smith at the Memorial Hall in Plymouth, Massachusetts. He defeated Mitchell Rose by decision on March 16, 2006 at Madison Square Garden. Madison Square Garden has been referred to as the "mecca of boxing" due to the number of historic boxing matches that have occurred at the venue. Mitchell Rose vs. Eric "Butterbean" Esch was fought in front of over 16,000 fans at Madison Square Garden in 1995 with Rose winning by technical knockout. Rose is the first person to defeat Butterbean in a professional boxing match.
Larry Holmes vs. Eric Esch was a professional boxing match that went ten rounds in July 2002 with Holmes winning a decision. In the last one hundred years there have only been 31 lineal heavyweight world champions. Larry Holmes held the lineal heavyweight world championship from 1980 to 1985.
Fought At Roxy Three Times
James Clancy fought at The Roxy Nightclub in Boston on three occasions. Micky Ward challenged Vince Phillips there for the International Boxing Federation junior welterweight world title in 1997. Clancy competed for the final time in 2007 when he lost to Rodney Ray at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Clancy won five national amateur Irish boxing titles.
Clancy defeated Kevin McBride in an amateur boxing match. McBride defeated Mike Tyson in 2005.[17] He missed out on the 1996 Summer Olympics due to injury. He has been quoted speaking about his amateur boxing career and the underfunded Irish national boxing program:
In my early days of his boxing career in Ireland I slept in a car outside Dublin's National Stadium because I couldn't afford accommodations.
I had no back-room team, sometimes not even a coach.
I never got the opportunity but my life brought me on a different path after that.
Personal Life
James Clancy's wife Marie died in 2014.
He has a brother named Mark Clancy that also boxed professionally.
