Jai Bornstein was a 19 year old transgender community activist from Bakersfield, California. ^[2]She graduated from Bakersfield High School and went on to attend California State University, Bakersfield. ^[1]

Jai was last seen on December 27, 2016, around 10:00 a.m.

Her father said she left the house with the intent of committing suicide. She had taken his gun and left their home. ^{[0] [2]}

Investigators believe she was dropped off at Hart Park by an Uber driver, and walked directly to the river. ^[0]She was reported missing by her family, and her body was located at the park on December 31, 2016. ^[2]

Her family set up a GoFundMe ^[2]to help pay for funeral costs. ^[2]
