Jack Beaton (December 10, 1962 - October 1, 2017) was a resident of Bakersfield, California. He was one of the victims who died during the Mandalay Bay Resort Shooting on October 1, 2017.
Personal Life
Jack Beaton was survived by his wife, Laurie, along with his two children Jake and Delaney.
He married Laurie on October 1, 1994.
According Jerry Cook (Beaton's father-in-law), Beaton loved driving his truck with his hat turned sideways.
He also called him "a kid at heart" and a "responsible father with a loving personality."
Death

On the evening of October 1, 2017, Beaton was killed in a mass shooting at the Mandalay Bay Resort. He was with his wife, Laurie, celebrating their 23rd anniversary at the Route 91 Harvest music festival.
About an hour before the shooting, Jack posted a picture of him, Laurie, and two other couple who road-tripped to the Route 91 Harvest.
According to his son, he shielded his wife from the gunfire.
Recounting how Laurie described the scenario, Jerry Cook said the following:
Jack got on top of Laurie to protect her. He laid on top of her and said, ‘Laurie, I love you.’ She said, ‘I love you too,’ and boom — he got hit. I don’t know how many times.
