Isibaya is a South African daily soap opera, broadcast on DStv's Mzansi Magic channel.The show was created by the creators of some of South Africas biggest shows such Yizo Yizo, Gaz'lam, Zone 14 & currently airing Isithembiso. The show was intended as a Telenovela, but due to its instant popularity and widespread acclaim, the show was turned into a daily soap opera.
Isibaya is one of South Africas' most watched and most popular TV shows and has received critical praise for its powerful storylines,the quality of its production and acting performances most notably from main characters Siyabonga Thwala and Thembi Nyandeni. The show also launched the careers of some of South Africa's most famous young actors such as Nomzamo Mbatha, Jessica Nkosi and Pallance Dladla.The show has also won numerous awards most notably from the South African Film and Television Awards.
Plot
Isibaya is set on the backdrop of the taxi industry, with two young lovers who are torn apart by a century-old feud between two powerful families.The
show has since developed and grown in its storyline to showcase the feud and rivalries of the families,still in the backdrop of the taxi industry and the daily lives of the people around them. Isibaya
is now in its eighth season.[1]
Production
Isibaya is shot on various locations of mainly in the Msinga Local Municipality area in KwaZulu-Natal, Protea Glen, Soweto and Johannesburg.
