Irene Guadagno was an Italian-American entrepreneur, importer, and business woman based in Los Angeles, California. She is the mother of Pasquale Rotella, the founder of Insomniac. Guadagno was known in the EDM community as "Mama Irene."
Biography
A tribute to Mama Irene
Guadagno is originally from Caserta and immigrated to the United States in the late 1960's, settling in Los Angeles, California. An entrepreneur, Guadagno opened a successful Italian restaurant and a Caribbean-themed bar and club. She later became an importer of fine Italian furniture, art and Murano glass as well as fine Italian and European genuine foods. Guadagno was actively involved in Italian affairs through Italy's "vote abroad" initiative. In 2014, Guadagno was honored by The Federated Italo-Americans of Southern California as the Federated Woman of the Year.
Guadagno married Vincenzo Rotella, a contractor also from Italy, and they had two daughters and one son.
Their son, Pasquale Rotella, went on to found the music event promotion company Insomniac which organizes some of the largest festivals in the world including Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), Electric Forest, HARD, and more. For many years, Guadagno was a mainstay at Insomniac events and was known for her kindness, open-heartedness, and fun attitude. Pasquale has called his mother his strongest supporter and the biggest reason where he made it to where he is in life.
In April 2015, Guadagno lost her battle with cancer and passed away.
A memorial celebration was held in her honor at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on April 26th, 2015.
