Giraffe Woman (Sydney V. Smith) is a woman from from Los Angeles, California who calls herself 'the giraffe woman'. Smith wanted to be known around the world for her long neck and in 2011 started stretching her neck using custom made metallic rings.
About
Giraffe Woman (Sydney V. Smith) was Inspired by the Kayan people in South East Asia, who are known for stretching their necks with brass coils, Sydney had her own set of rings custom made and spent five years slowly adding more in an attempt to push down her collarbone.
At its heaviest, the stack was made up of 15 rings and weighed an incredible 5lbs.
Biography
Smith started stretching her neck in 2011.
"The Giraffe Woman was something she accidently [sic] manifested from my childhood years.
In middle school I was known as "giraffe girl."
Back in those days, I loved reading National Geographic Magazines and was obsessed with the culture of the Kayan women and their long necks."
