Article About Lack of Minority Journalists
In 2015, Gillian B. White wrote an article about the lack of minorities in journalism. She cites several statistics that even though minorities make up a certain number of the population, those numbers are not reflected in the newsroom, which she argues are overwhelmingly male and white. Gillian quotes another Atlantic writer, Riva Gold, “Fewer minorities are getting the opportunity to work in news, and news organizations are losing their ability to empower, represent, and—especially in cases where language ability is crucial— even to report on minority populations in their communities.” Both of these writers have the same conclusion at the end of their articles, that lack of growing minority representation will mean swaths of the population voices, concerns, and feelings will not be captured by the press.
