Gia Woods
Gia Woods
Gia Woods is an American pop music star based in Los Angeles, California. She is signed to Disruptor Records.[12]
Personal Life
She grew up in Los Angeles, California within a Persian household. As a young girl she was introduced to a variety of musical instruments and played the violin, the piano, guitar, and drums. She also performed in her elementary school's orchestra. In high school she joined the choir. Woods then performed at a local open mic night and was discovered by a talent agent.[15]
“I was so closeted for so long with my friends and family, I was even in a relationship that I didn’t tell anybody about in high school, and so I think with my music it was really important to me to be honest from the start.”
She also described how being apart of the LGBTQ Community has a role in how she is perceived, stating,[24]
“I’ve always been so proud of who I am and I’m so proud to be part of this community – and I always want to be part of it – but I definitely don’t want it to be the only thing that defines who I am.
It’s one of the biggest things that shapes who I am, but I don’t want it to be like, ‘That’s the reason she’s making music’.
I’m making music to connect with people, definitely people from the LGBTQ community because a lot of my music is about my relationships, but I don’t want it to be defined by that.
I want people to get to know me and my upbringing and how I’ve become who I am – not just who I’m sleeping with, you know?”
Influences
As a young girl Woods listened to musical artists like Radiohead, Björk, Madonna, Prince, and Green Day. Many of these artists she discovered in her older sister's music collection. She also learned to play music on her sister's electric guitar.[15]
In a May 2019 interview with Billboard, Gia commented on her adoration of the pop music icon Madonna,[16]
"Madonna is my go-to icon.
I've looked up to her since I was a confused little gay girl.
I was like, "I want to be Madonna when I grow up!" She was definitely the stepping stone for me to pursue music.
She’s just so comfortable with herself and she really owns her shit.
She’s androgynous and sexy and a tomboy.
She doesn't have one specific way of being.
I was really mixed up when I was a kid, and Madonna gave me a ton of inspiration and direction, I feel like.
I take a ton from her to this day."
Gia Woods' name is inspired by the popular model Gia Carangi and living adjacent to Hollywood.[15]

"She's always tricked by illusions.
When you think about it, a person's ego is the master of creating illusions.
It messes with your perception and creates expectations.
When you're in a constant state of ego trips, you have no sense of reality."
"Ego" is the second video in her 'egotistical series'.
