Felicia Sanders is one of the survivors of the Charleston church shooting committed by mass murderer Dylann Roof in Charleston, South Carolina. She, her granddaughter and retired nurse, Polly Sheppard were the only ones survivors of the shooting.
After the shooting Felicia became an activist, advocating for gun control and better ways to teach kids self-control to prevent future mass shootings.
She works as a cosmetologist and an usher at the church.

When he started shooting, she threw herself on top of her 11-year-old granddaughter, saving the child's life and her own by playing dead.
Felicia's son Tywanza Sanders, 26, and aunt, 87-year-old Susie Jackson, were shot to death.
"I can't stop questioning, What could I have done differently to save more people?" she says, tearfully.
"After the shooting it just came to me: You know what?
My son probably said, 'God, I'll go with you, but I want you to make sure my mama's strong and can get through this.'"
Felicia is an advocate for stricter gun control laws and better ways to teach kids self-control.
She said "We can talk about [issues like race and violence] until we're blue in the face."
"But if you make a change, I make a change, everybody makes a change, then change will come."
In September, after the shooting Felicia attended her first Bible study at Second Presbyterian, mainly white church.
She said that “I wanted to do this for Tywanza (her son who died in the shooting).
I want to prove that boy (Dylann Roof) wrong. I wanted to show forgiveness and love between the races."
