Exodus’s biggest claim to fame is its intuitive, user-friendly platform. The Exodus desktop walletaims to give you plenty of features to control an entire cryptocurrency portfolio, but it is designed for people who have never actually used an exchange.

Exodus is the first desktop wallet with full ShapeShift functionality.

What is Exodus?****

Exodus is software to secure, manage and trade blockchain assets.

Just as the internet opened the free exchange of information, blockchains evolve the exchange of financial assets. Traditional brokerage accounts have slow settlement with limited hours in established jurisdictions. In contrast, blockchain markets are hyper-speed-24/7-worldwide markets available to anyone, any age, anywhere.

Exodus allows you to participate in these new global markets from any computer running Mạc, Windows or Linux.

Similar to a traditional Stock market, there are thousands of distinct blockchain asset s. Bitcoin was the first blockchain asset- other popular blockchain asset s include Ethereum, Litecoin, and Dash. Just like traditional stock, each blockchain asset carries unique properties and is priced by markets independently. These blockchain asset s inherently have different utility, areas of focus, values, beliefs and overall culture backing the asset. [1]

Those familiar with traditional finance can think of Exodus [1] as a self-managed brokerage account for a new class of investments called blockchain assets, digital assets or Cryptocurrency.

Features

Multi-Asset Wallet

Exodus is always on the lookout to support more assets.

In order for an asset to be considered, the following criteria must be met:

  1. The asset has developer resources and documentation.

  2. An asset has specialized API servers with load balancing setup for private use by Exodus.

  3. This is much easier if the API is based on Bitpay Insight.

  4. Market cap and 24-hr volumes are considered.

  5. Top-50 or perceived potential to enter the top-50.

  • Exodus encrypts private keys and transaction data locally for your eyes only - no accounts, no servers, no data sharing.

  • Track the value of your blockchain asset portfolio, in real time, as market conditions change.

  • How about a subtle space background?

  • Exodus pre-built themes start with traditional gray or go wild with Dogecoin inspired fun.

  • ShapeShift built in (exchange between multiple currencies)

  • Recover your wallet using a 12 words passphrase

Exchange (ShapeShift)

Exodus is the first desktop multi-asset wallet withShapeShift built-in, a cryptocurrency exchange or digital currency echange (DCE) which is a businesses that allows customers to trade cryptocurrencies or digital currencies for other different digital currencies ShapeShift is a company that offers global trading of a variety of digital assets via web and mobile platforms. [6]

Security

Exodus is a software solution to hold and maintain blockchain assets. While Exodus securely encrypts and protects your blockchain assets with a password, it is only as secure as the computer that it resides on and the security practices of the user.

Exodus is wholeheartedly supportive of every individual's right to privacy and full control of their funds. We've incorporated these principles into our technical design choices for the Exodus Wallet.

Unlike your bank account or stock portfolio, Exodus (the company) doesn't actually hold any of your assets on your behalf. You control your assets through a set of private keys generated from when you first opened your Exodus Wallet. The private keys to your blockchain assets are generated and encrypted locally and stored on your computer. These keys are never stored on the cloud, and they remain 100% for your eyes only, 100% in your control. [1]

When broadcasting and receiving transaction information, Exodus connects to a network of Insight Servers.

An insight server is a computer server that handles the communication of transactions and keeps track of updates to the ledgers of one or more cryptocurrencies. These insight servers are operated by many different companies and groups, none of which include Exodus (Wallet). Your transaction history is backed up to Exodus in an encrypted format, so we can't know how much money you hold in your wallet.

The result is a very secure, redundant wallet that could function perfectly fine even if Exodus as a company were to disappear. The trade-off is that Exodus staff can't trace where transactions were sent without information you provide, nor step in to reset your password if you forget it. [1]
